How Many Photos Does a Holiday Let Need?

When guests compare holiday cottages, photographs help them judge whether a place will suit their trip before they read every detail. Too few images can leave important questions unanswered; too many near-identical shots can make a listing feel repetitive. The aim is to give a clear, honest picture of the whole stay.

Cover the guest's decision-making checklist

There is no magic number that suits every property. A compact one-bedroom cottage needs fewer images than a large house with several living spaces. Build your photo set around the questions a guest is likely to have:

  • What does the property look like from outside, and where is the entrance?
  • Where will everyone sleep, and what are the beds and bedrooms like?
  • Is there enough comfortable space to relax and eat together?
  • What useful features make the stay easier, such as a well-equipped kitchen, parking or outdoor space?
  • What does the immediate setting look like, including views or nearby surroundings?

A practical starting point

For many small cottages, around 15 to 25 carefully chosen images can provide a useful overview. Larger properties may need more to show each bedroom, bathroom and distinct living area. Treat this as a starting point, not a platform rule: check the current requirements of the booking sites where you advertise.

Prioritise coverage over repetition

Show each important room from a helpful angle, then add a detail or feature only when it tells guests something useful. A bedroom image should make the layout and sleeping arrangements easy to understand. A second near-identical view rarely adds much. Include clear exterior and arrival images, and make sure the first few photos represent the strongest reasons to choose your property.

Keep the gallery accurate and current

Photograph the property as guests will find it. Avoid misleading edits, and update the gallery after renovations or meaningful changes. If a feature is seasonal, label it accurately rather than implying it is available year-round.

Make every image earn its place

Review the gallery in order on a phone as well as a larger screen. Does it move naturally from the first impression to the rooms, facilities and setting? Remove duplicates, fill any important gaps, and choose a strong cover image that reflects the real character of the cottage.

Plan a complete holiday let photo set

The right number depends on your property, but a thoughtful, well-rounded gallery gives prospective guests a much clearer sense of their stay. See our Airbnb and holiday let photography service to plan professional images for your Welsh property.
